GMI Construction Group’s Construction Cares Initiative won both the Outreach Initiative of the Year and Social Value Initiative of the Year at the 2024 Construction News Workforce Awards.
GMI’s Responsible Business team (Brendan, James and Nick) have worked incredibly hard alongside Claire Preston, who pioneered the Construction Cares programme, to deliver DIY Workshops, Constructive Kickabouts and much more in order to create safe spaces for Care Leavers and other communities to come together to learn new skills and develop themselves.
The team have delivered in excess of £250m in social value since January 2022, a record-breaking figure for GMI. Specifically, the Construction Cares Initiative has team enhanced the lives of over 80 care-experienced individuals.
The initiative has placed GMI at the forefront in the industry, positioning us as a leader in Responsible Business with strategic partnerships with the Care Leaver Covenant, the 5% Club, and the Armed Forces Covenant, pushing the industry and ameliorating social value standards.
The successes on the night are a fitting acknowledgment of the work of our colleague Claire Preston and her dedication to this initiative.
The inspirational winners of the 2024 Construction News Workforce Awards were crowned in front of the industry on Thursday 19 November at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London.
The Construction News Workforce Awards, brought together near 400, recognising the outstanding achievements of those striving to make the construction industry and their organisations great places to work.
A panel of 40+ judges reviewed the entries, GMI’s Construction Cares Initiative won in recognition of the initiative being a completely unique offer focusing on all of the groups furthest away from the job market that is completely tailored to their needs and is not being done by anyone else to this degree.
Colin Marrs, editor of Construction News, commented:
