#GMIYorkshire were once again in the winners circle as our work on Sheffield’s Olympic Legacy Park picked up the South Yorkshire Insider Award for Outstanding Development of the Year for the Community Stadium.

Practical Completion of the Stadium at Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, was achieved in June – 16 months after breaking ground. It’s now a focal point in the community, home to Sheffield Eagles Rugby League Club and hub for local SME’s.

Designed by architects, Whittam Cox, and handed over to our client, Scarborough Group International, the Community Stadium has the capacity to hold 758 seated supporters under a covered grandstand, and a further 562 standing around the pitch perimeter, giving a total of 1,320.

This development is hoped to spark further investment in the eastern quarter of the city into a community for the health, wellbeing, sport and activity sectors, that could create up to 5,600 high-value jobs.

Andy Hurcomb, Divisional Director for GMI Yorkshire, said: “Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park is delivering a tangible legacy from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games through the four themes of sport, community, environment and economy. GMI is delighted to have delivered another award winning product, working alongside Scarborough Group International. This is an impressive new addition to the stadium skyline.”

This is the second award GMI have picked up in two months following success at The Yorkshires with Leeds’ 12 King Street.
